Who we are

Counsel that stays
with the matter.

Incept Legal is a litigation and regulatory practice in the NCR of Delhi. Every mandate is partner-led, and the team that takes your instructions is the team that sees it through — from the commissions and tribunals to the High Courts and the Supreme Court.

Good advice is short, timely and answers the question asked.

Most businesses do not want a legal opinion. They want to know whether they can do the thing, what it will cost if they are wrong, and what to do instead if they cannot. The Indian legal market has historically been better at producing the first than the second.

Incept Legal was set up around that gap. We are a full-service commercial practice — disputes, corporate, regulatory — built to give a straight answer quickly and to stand behind it. That means tightly staffed teams, senior judgment on every file, and a written work product that a non-lawyer can act on without a translation layer.

Our partners include Advocates-on-Record of the Supreme Court of India, and the firm’s regulatory practice is led by a Senior Partner with twenty-five years in electricity and infrastructure law. That shapes how we work: a matter is prepared from the first day as though it may end up in the last court, and if it does, it stays with the counsel who has run it throughout.

It also means we decline work we are not the right firm for. A client who is better served elsewhere is told so at the first meeting, not after three months of fees.

The measure of counsel is not how much you were told. It is whether you knew what to do next.

01

Partner-led from first call to final order

The partner who scopes a mandate conducts it. Associates research, draft and prepare the matter under that partner’s direction, and you will often deal with them day to day — but the file is never passed down and forgotten. If responsibility moves, you are told why and to whom.

02

A view, not a survey

Our advice states a position and the confidence we hold it with. Where the law is genuinely unsettled we say so plainly and set out the posture we would defend — which is more useful than a list of every argument available to both sides.

03

Fees agreed before the work starts

Fixed and capped fees wherever the scope permits, retainers where the relationship is ongoing, and hourly rates disclosed in advance where it does not. Scope changes are discussed before they are incurred.

04

Regulatory depth, not regulatory theatre

We invest in the areas where Indian law is actually moving — electricity and infrastructure regulation, insolvency, and now data protection under the DPDP Act — and we write on them publicly, so clients can judge the thinking before they instruct us.

05

Confidentiality treated as an operating constraint

Client information is held under privilege and under the firm’s own data protection programme. We apply to ourselves the standards we ask our clients to meet, including retention limits on closed files.

Headquartered in Noida. Instructed across India.

Base

The NCR advantage

Our registered office is in Sector 41, Noida — within reach of the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court, the NCLT and NCLAT, the Noida and Greater Noida authorities, and the corporate corridors of Gurugram and Noida. The firm acts on record in the Supreme Court, so a matter need not change hands when it reaches the last court.

Reach

Punjab & Haryana, and beyond

In Punjab and Haryana we appear ourselves, through counsel enrolled and practising there. Elsewhere we instruct lawyers we have worked with before and remain accountable for the file. Clients deal with us, not with a chain of introductions.

Inbound

International clients

We act as India counsel to foreign companies and to overseas law firms, on entry structuring, ongoing compliance, contracting and the disputes that follow. Instructions are taken in English and correspondence is kept to the point.

Work we take on because it should be done

Pro bono

The firm commits partner and associate time each year to matters taken without fee — typically for non-profit organisations, and for individuals in matters concerning data, dignity and access to services.

Teaching and writing

We publish our analysis openly rather than reserving it for clients, and we speak at law schools and industry forums on data protection. Our Insights section is written by the lawyers who do the work.

We will tell you, plainly,
where you stand.

Whether it is a tariff order to be appealed, a hearing already listed, or a notice that has just been served, we will tell you where you stand before you instruct us.
